Types of Garden Sprinklers

A fresh and greener lawn is one of the best assets in your home, keeping it healthy you need the best sprinkler that could help distribute the right amount of water to your yard. Nothing beats dry seasons than having the proper care for your lawn, buying a sprinkler is one thing but keep in mind that there are several things you need to consider in choosing the perfect sprinkler for your garden.

Things to Consider

There are different types of sprinkler and models to choose from, you just need to know which one is ideal for your lawn. You might need to use more than one type of sprinkler to cover your entire lawn and garden needs.

Here are the things that you need to consider when picking out what’s best for your yard.

  • The size of your lawn – How large is the area that needs to be watered? Do you want it to cover the entire area or just a few?
  • The shape of your lawn – Knowing the shape of your garden makes it easier to identify the sprinkler that suits you. There are 4 different shapes round, square, pies-shaped, and rectangular.
  • Structures – Are there any areas that should not get wet? Like the newly built wood structure, new garden furniture, if yes then you need a sprinkler that can be easily adjusted.
  • Time – How often do you water your lawn and plants? The more water you need the more important it is to think about the features and stability of a sprinkler.

Different Types of Lawn Sprinklers

Oscillating Sprinklers - Cover a wide range of area that goes back and forth, it is a long tube with numerous holes that shoots out water in thin streams and shows a rain-like spray of water pattern. It covers a rectangular, shaped garden and can be adjusted to where you want the water to flow.

Rotating Sprinklers – This type of sprinkler covers a large area like the front and back of your yard or the garden. It features having two or more arms that rotate to spray water over the lawn, when you have an open area that needs to be accommodated in a circular pattern then this is a good choice for you.

Impact Sprinklers – This is often be mistaken as the rotary sprinklers, but impact sprinklers produce noise because it uses a powerful stream of water pressure to move the sprinkler arms in a circular watering pattern, making a clicking sound. Most impact sprinklers can be adjusted or simply removing the diffuser pin but it is tricky to do it so make sure to practice or find the best type to use.

Fixed (Stationary, Spike) Sprinklers – This sprinkler is the simple, easy to use, and inexpensive type.  There are two types of fixed sprinklers one is that it can spray to a single pattern over a fixed area and the second one is the multiple spray pattern. Stationary sprinklers do not distribute water far enough in a large yard, but they still, do a great job of watering smaller areas.

Traveller Sprinklers – It is easily to recognize these because it looks like a tractor but tiny. It travels along the hose path on its own covering a large flat area and shuts off when it reaches the end of the line. To keep it from moving you need a sufficient water pressure and you need to keep an eye on it to avoid overwatering the lawn and flooding the areas.

Sprinkler Hoses – This looks just like your typical garden hose but it has tiny holes that spray water within the length of the hose and a specific area. This is ideal for those who have a narrow and irregular shape lawn or garden. You can easily adjust depending on how far you want the water to reach by turning down the pressure and it can only spray water at around 20 feet.

Pop Up Sprinklers – They are the type of sprinklers that pops up from the ground when activated and hides below when not in use. These are automatic types and they are the fast-becoming popular sprinkler for every homeowner, ideally use for different types of gardens. This is used primarily for watering grass and flower beds; it distributes water precisely and efficiently throughout the garden.
